Richard Liu Qiangdong is the founder of Jingdong company, commonly known as He has a very humble background, but despite it, he has shown commitment to his work and has seen it grow from a tiny stall to one of the most recognized retail companies in the world. Liu took a degree course in sociology at the People’s University and graduated in 1996. He spent most of his time learning about computer programming due to his interest in the increasing possibilities of the upcoming internet. Richard went to China Europe International Business School for his EMBA. He started his business by selling Magnetic products like CD ROMs at a storefront in Beijing in 1998. Richard Liu is a true visionary and a remarkable entrepreneur.

Qiangdong has built into a global e-commerce powerhouse and is improving the lives of millions of people in China through his philanthropy. Liu is a true inspiration, and he is proof that anything is possible with hard work and determination.

The store multiplied and came up with 12 storefronts in Beijing and Shanghai until 2003 when the SARS outbreak occurred. The outbreak posed a significant threat to the future of business growth, making him muse about venturing into online business. The number of internet users was massively increasing, which is one of the deliberations that led to the first iterations of the Jingdong company.

The online retail platform was started in 2004 and sold magneto-optical products but later included electronics, mobile phones, and other tech products. Liu changed the company name to in 2007 but later, in 2013, changed it to the current name, JD.Com.
